File conversion
done right.
Every day, millions of people upload sensitive documents to online file converters. We built a better way.
“Your files are private — not because we promise it, but because our server never sees them. That's an architectural guarantee, not a policy one.”
— The HarborConvert team
The problem we're solving
Every day, millions of people upload sensitive documents — tax returns, medical records, legal contracts, financial data — to online file converters. Those files travel to unknown servers, pass through unknown processes, and are retained for unknown lengths of time.
We built HarborConvert because there's a better way. Modern browsers are powerful enough to run real conversion software using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your PDF can be merged, your Excel exported to JSON, your image resized — all without a single byte of file data leaving your device.
How it works
Libraries load in your browser
When you open a converter, we load pdf-lib, SheetJS, js-yaml, or the browser's native Canvas API — right into your browser tab.
Conversion runs locally
Your file is read from your disk into browser memory, processed by the library, and the result is written back to your downloads folder.
Zero network traffic
At no point does any file data travel over the network. Open your browser's network inspector and verify it yourself.
What we do — and don't — store
If you create a Pro or Business account, we store metadata about your conversions — the file name, file size, format, and timestamp. Never the file itself. This powers your conversion history so you can see what you've converted.
Our pricing model
The free tier is genuinely free, forever. We show a single tasteful ad to free users to keep the lights on. Pro and Business plans remove ads and add batch processing, larger file limits, and team features.
No sneaky limits, no file-count caps designed to frustrate you into upgrading — just a fair model where power users pay for power features.
Our privacy commitment
We will never sell user data. We will never add server-side file processing. The browser-only architecture is a founding principle of HarborConvert, not a feature we can remove. If that ever changes, we will give users 90 days notice and publish a detailed explanation.
